The Caribbean's warm water, white sand, and year-round sunshine make it a natural home for naturism — and several islands have embraced it wholeheartedly.

The Caribbean was made for swimming without clothes. The water temperature sits between 26–29°C year-round. The beaches are some of the world's finest. The sun is fierce and constant. The only question is why you'd want to wear anything at all.

The legal and cultural reality varies significantly between islands. French St. Martin has the most established nude beach scene, with Orient Bay being one of the Caribbean's most famous clothing-optional destinations. The Dominican Republic hosts the famous Hedonism-adjacent resorts. Jamaica's Hedonism II has operated as an adults-only clothing-optional resort since 1981. Across the Lesser Antilles, you'll find secluded coves where nudism is practised without fanfare.

What the Caribbean offers that Europe cannot is the combination of tropical warmth, extraordinary marine biodiversity, and the distinctive Caribbean pace of life — unhurried, welcoming, and deeply relaxed. Snorkelling, sailing, rum cocktails, and the freedom of nudism — it's a powerful combination.

Where to Eat

Caribbean food varies enormously by island, but the common thread is fresh seafood, local spice, and the rum that makes everything taste better.

Orient Bay (St. Martin): Kontiki Beach Restaurant sits right on the nudist section of the beach — dining clothing-optional by convention. Fresh fish, accras de morue (salt cod fritters), grilled lobster, French Antillean cuisine. €30–45 per person. One of the Caribbean's most unique dining experiences.

Jamaica (near Hedonism II): Negril's famous Rick's Café perched on limestone cliffs is obligatory — cliff divers, sunset, frozen daiquiris. Elsewhere, Ivan's Bar on Negril's 7-Mile Beach serves excellent jerk chicken and cold Red Stripe at local prices.

US Virgin Islands: Duffy's Love Shack on St. Thomas is an institution — frozen cocktails, beach bar chaos, reliably fun. For proper local food, seek out a roti shop — the Caribbean's greatest street food.

Where to Stay

Budget: St. Martin has guesthouses near Orient Bay from €60–80 per night. Self-catering apartments sleep groups more affordably.

Mid-range: Club Orient on St. Martin's Orient Bay is the Caribbean's premier naturist resort — clothing-optional throughout, on the beach, villas and studios from €150 per night.

Splurge: Hedonism II (Jamaica) — the original adult lifestyle resort, running since 1981. All-inclusive from $250 per night — food, drink, activities, entertainment all included. Clothing optional in the nude section of the beach and pool.

Hidden gem: Guanahani resort on St. Barths has private beach areas and a traditionally relaxed attitude to clothing on their more secluded beach sections. From €400 per night — expensive but St. Barths prices are universally high.

Best Nude Beaches in the Caribbean

Orient Bay (St. Martin/Sint Maarten) — The Caribbean's most famous nude beach. The northern end of this 2-kilometre crescent of white sand is clothing-optional by established convention. Club Orient resort provides the full infrastructure. Clear calm water, beach bar, water sports — outstanding.

Hedonism II Beach (Negril, Jamaica) — The resort's private beach is split between a "prude" and "nude" section. Entry to the beach is restricted to guests, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment. 7-Mile Beach location is spectacular.

Maho Bay (US Virgin Islands, St. John) — Not officially nude, but the remote beaches of St. John within the National Park — particularly the western shore coves — are traditionally clothing-optional. Take a water taxi.

Anse des Flamands (St. Barths) — One of St. Barths' quieter beaches, traditionally tolerant of toplessness and nudism. The St. Barths attitude to such things is distinctly French.

Plage de la Perle (Guadeloupe) — A stunning wild beach on Guadeloupe's Basse-Terre, partially clothed-optional by local convention. One of the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches.

Getting There & Around

By air: Miami, New York, and London are the main gateways. American Airlines, Delta, British Airways, and Air France all connect to Caribbean hubs. Inter-island flights via LIAT or local carriers from $50–150 one-way.

By ferry: Many neighbouring islands connect by fast ferry — St. Martin to St. Barths takes 45 minutes ($30 one-way). The BVI to USVI runs regularly.

By car: Most Caribbean islands have car hire from $40–60 per day. Traffic drives on the left on British-influenced islands, right on French and Dutch ones.

Costs: The Caribbean varies hugely. St. Barths is among the world's most expensive destinations. Jamaica and Dominican Republic offer excellent value. Budget $100–200 per person per day for comfortable travel outside all-inclusive resorts.

📅 Best Time to Visit Caribbean

Best Time to Visit

Best (December–April): Dry season, minimal hurricane risk, temperatures 26–30°C. Peak prices and peak tourist traffic.

Value season (May–June & November): Shoulder seasons with lower prices, good weather, reduced crowds.

Avoid (August–October): Peak hurricane season. Not worth the risk for most islands, though Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao (south of the hurricane belt) remain safe year-round.

Year-round: The southern Caribbean islands (Aruba, Curaçao, Trinidad) sit below the hurricane belt and maintain excellent weather year-round.

The Caribbean's combination of warm water, white sand, and the intoxicating freedom of nudism under tropical sunshine is genuinely hard to beat. Whether you choose the established French naturist scene at Orient Bay, the legendary all-inclusive experience at Hedonism II, or simply find your own secluded cove on a lesser-visited island, the Caribbean rewards naturist travellers extravagantly.

Nudism laws vary by location. Designated naturist beaches are fully legal. Always look for official signage and stick to marked areas. Our guide above covers the specific legal situation in detail.

A towel (to sit on — naturist etiquette requires this), high-factor sunscreen (SPF 50+ minimum), water, something to read, and a bag for valuables. Nothing specialist required.
Is a nude beach safe for first-timers?+
Yes — established naturist beaches are among the most welcoming and inclusive spaces in travel. Self-consciousness typically fades within 20-30 minutes. Choose a busy, well-managed beach for your first visit.
